Fall 2022

Graduate Student Position in Decision Science for Urban Resilience to Climate Change

We’re looking for a graduate student for a funded PhD position applying decision science for urban resilience to climate change. The student will be placed within the Department of Geosciences at Penn State University and will be conducting highly integrative research with a wider group of scientists from urban planning, hydrology, meteorology, and climate science, among other fields.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated person passionate about decision making for environmental and societal problems. The candidate should be excited to grow and apply their computational and analytical skills to: i) understand how climate and other stressors affect urban environments; and ii) investigate how potential adaptive solutions can mitigate impacts on urban communities.

Candidates from a wide variety of backgrounds would be suitable for this position: systems or environmental engineering, environmental science, hydrology, water resources, or others. Past experience with computing, statistics, or data analysis is preferred, but not necessary.

The position is funded by a new interdisciplinary, multi-institution research project with fantastic networking opportunities for the selected student.
